A Fireplace and it’s mantle are a wonderful opportunity for decorating and bringing character and unique style to your space. While it may not be the focal point of the home during warm months, that doesn’t mean you still won’t want to use it as a gathering place and highlight its beauty. Layering is a common Southern decorating technique when setting up a fireplace mantle’s décor. The more layers, the more interesting your finished product. One unique way to decorate and use your fireplace with layering techniques, is to place many overlapping different sized picture frames across and around it. This is also a wonderful way to show your family and loved ones how much you love them and those memories.

Adding some “Whimsy” is another great way to make your space inviting and elegant. Whimsical décor comes in many styles, there is something that is perfect for any living space. We love ornate bottles and vases, deer antlers, books, drift wood, and weathered metal pieces. This is a great opportunity to fill your space with some older items you might have inherited from family members, and to also add pops of color to an otherwise neutral space.

There really is no more traditional place to hang a painting than over a fireplace. This timeless tradition is a wonderful way to support a local artist or express yourself and your home’s feel with your favorite piece of artwork. Hanging art over a fireplace is also a great opportunity to use an exciting or ornate frame. Many large frames can be overbearing on normal wall space, but filling the space above your fireplace with a large frame will make it look timeless and classic.
